AROUND TOWN: The Strike @ Call the Office, Sat Oct 17th
The Oi movement started as a protest against the commercialization of punk rock and is often identified with the skinheads and dissatisfied working class youth in the UK. One of the first wave of Oi bands was Scotland’s The Strike who appeared on 1981′s classic Strength thru Oi compilation with two of their key tunes, Gang War and Skinhead. Strike vocalist Fergus Macleod would move to British Columbia and to bands Emergency and The Tranzmitors, before moving here to London and a conventional job, but there was still some rocking left in this punk, and Fergus decided that it was time for a second Strike. He grabbed another former Londoner
Pete Lambert former drummer for NFG who had moved to the UK and the drum seat for Oi superstars The Angelic Upstarts. Pete had continued his UK adventures with the Trojans and Lash Lariat, finally returning to Ontario and the Kensington Hillbillies. Now based in Hamilton where they grabbed guitarist Crash, veteran of such local bands as Slander, The Hammerboiz and the Steeltown Spoilers.
It’s a sort of homecoming as the Strike takes the stage of Call the Office with special guests The Noble Savages, Pile High, and Danger Cat. Admission is $10 at the door
